Friends of Dilton Marsh (FODS)

Friends of Dilton School (FODS) is a registered charity (No: 1104657).

The group consists of elected FODS committee members, a school representative and volunteers who are mostly parents. We work together to organise and run fundraising events and activities to benefit our school community. We also help to provide resources and extra-curricular clubs.

Who are we?

  • Chair - Amy Pittaway
  • Secretary - (Vacancy)
  • Treasurer - David Osborne

What is our aim?

Our aim is to enhance our children's experience at school and create positive opportunities for them. Our target is to raise at least £3,000 each school year. We have fun events planned for the years ahead while raising valuable funds, all of which are directly or indirectly spent to benefit the children.

How are the funds raised used?

In recent years we have bought the wooden play trail and contributed to creating a wonderful new library and supported towards school trips to help make them more affordable. We have also funded welcome packs for our reception children, refreshments at fil-m nights, contributed towards the visiting pantomime and the leavers' cream tea for our Year 6 families.

What sort of activities / events do we run?

Here are some examples of the events we have organised:

  • Picnic for reception children and families
  • School discos
  • Bake sale
  • Easter Egg Trail
  • Christmas hamper raffle
  • Film Night
  • Community quiz
  • Village Scarecrow Trail

What sort of help is needed?

It is great to have a team of helpers to share the load for each successful event (we are all volunteers so it is not compulsory to be involved with everything). Here are some examples of things helpers do:

  • Setting up /packing down events
  • Decorations
  • Supervising children with teachers
  • Serving refreshments
  • Selling tickets
  • Collecting raffle prizes
  • Creating hampers

Are you interested in joining FODS?

Many hands make light work! To provide events like the above and to raise the needed funds, we rely on a team of brilliant helpers alongside the committee - the more the merrier. Being a helper is not a massive commitment; we appreciate any time you can give and it is rewarding to see the children enjoying themselves and benefitting from the activities.

We usually meet once a term to go through plans and new members are always welcome. There is no obligation to come to every meeting or help at every event. New ideas for events or ways to spend the funds are welcome so let us know what you have in mind. We have a helper's message group to keep everyone in the loop.
